Guest Blog – Catching up with The Proposers

I don’t know about you but there’s nothing I love more than a good proposal! The first question on everyone’s lips after finding out someone’s engaged… How did they propose? Looking back at our parent’s generation, there usually isn’t much of a story. I know for my Mum and Dad it was more of an agreement that they would spend the rest of the life together then off down to shops to buy a ring! Over the years proposals have become more and more extravagant and people have even started to hire help to ensure their proposal wow’s their potential fiancé! After a busy Valentine’s Day our friends at The Proposers, the original proposal planning company, filled us in on their busiest three months of the year…

Hey Proposers! So, we’ve just got through Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day – what’s the most popular occasion for proposals?
It’s Christmas hands down! We have over 30 proposals each December!

How many proposals do you plan and deliver on Valentine’s Day each year?
Around 5-7 each Valentine’s day, big and small!

When does planning start for your Valentine’s Day proposals?
We start right after Christmas, but some clients come in a day before or even on day the day of!

Wow, seriously last minute! What’s your favourite venue for Christmas and New Year proposals?
Some favourites are The Shard for the view, Tower Bridge for something iconic, or a magical bandstand which we transformed into a winter wonderland, seriously romantic! We always tailor our ideas to the couple, find out the most romantic, interesting and random details about their love story to create proposals perfect for them.

So romantic! Could you talk us through three proposals you’ve really enjoyed planning over the past three months?
The Harry Potter themed one – our couple were mad about Harry Potter so we tapped into that to create an incredible proposal at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, where some of the iconic scenes were actually filmed! There were magical potions cocktails, letters of love and he had the ring on a replica of her favourite characters wand! Perfectly Potter!

All about London – over Christmas we had a beautiful American couple whose favourite destination to visit was London. The proposal was completely themed around the city and we created an evening of sightseeing and romance for them. The proposal itself was in their own private London Eye capsule, including surprise singers! We then organised a private dining room decorated with personalised and romantic décor at the Shangri La at the Shard, where they celebrated their engagement with dinner and drinks with one of the best views in town as their backdrop!

The Caribbean – over NYE our team embarked on a very high budget, but extremely private, proposal in the beautiful Barbados. The total budget for this proposal was over £80,000 (yes that is the right amount of 0’s!) and the set up was stunning… We flew some of our favourite UK suppliers out with us to create a proposal we could only dream of our partners surprising us with!

So that’s the life of a proposal planner in a nut shell – I’m sure you’ll agree it sounds like an interesting and super creative job to have! What’s your favourite proposal story?
