Even all the Scrooge’s out there can’t deny that Christmas films are one of the best things about this time of year. There’s something for everyone; Love Actually for all the hopeless romantics (yes that includes me!), The Grinch for those not quite sold by the magic of Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street if you’re looking for something traditional, Die Hard for those looking for an alternative (or if you love Christmas but don’t want to seem too soft!), and Home Alone to keep the whole family entertained!
Whatever your favourite Christmas film may be, I thought I’d give you a helping hand and tell you the best places to watch your favourite Christmas films this year (I know, how nice am I?). Read on to see what I rank as the top Christmas pop up cinemas in London in 2018.
The ultimate Christmas experience
If anyone knows how to put on a pop-up cinema, it’s Backyard Cinema! This year they’ve created a Christmas Labyrinth in Winterville on Clapham Common and it looks magical! There’s ‘magic around every corner’ for you to enjoy before snuggling down under a blanket on a giant beanbag, with mulled wine and a mince pie – Christmas heaven! There’s a massive choice of films, showing at a range of times throughout the day, from Love Actually to Elf so there’s something for everyone. You need to be quick though as lots of showings have already sold out!
A cinema fit for Royalty
This year, Luna Cinema have taken over some stunning venues for the festive season. With venues such as Kensington Palace, and St George’s Hall in Liverpool, it’s set to be a pretty impressive setting to watch your favourite festive flick! It’s showing iconic films to match the iconic settings, think Home Alone, Love Actually and Miracle on 34th Street. All locations are heated, so this is the one for you if you are like me and don’t particularly like the sound of sitting in the cold for two hours!
The floating cinema!
After such success, St. Katharine Docks have brought back their Floating Film Festival for the festive period! The festival runs for a week between 3rd to 9th December and is showing favourites such as Home Alone, Elf, Love Actually and The Muppet Christmas Carol. You’ll watch your favourite movie from the comfort of your own bean bag with cosy blankets to keep you nice and toasty. It’s running for one week only so act fast and get your tickets now!
The cinema in snow!
This year, the Hackney Showroom is being transformed into a snow-filled grotto that guests will reach by walking through a magic wardrobe (remind you of anything?!). The Cinema Club Pop Up Screens is behind this one and they’ve promised that there’ll be all things festive, including snow and Christmas trees, with mulled wine and hot chocolate being served to enjoy whilst watching your fave festive film.
So that’s my take on pop up cinemas in London this year…
Now tell me; what’s your favourite Christmas film?
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
